How much caffeine is in a caffeine pouch?
The typical caffeine range, how it compares to coffee, and how much is too much.
Most caffeine pouches contain between 50mg and 100mg of caffeine, though the full market runs from about 30mg to 200mg per pouch. As a rule of thumb, 100mg is roughly one cup of instant coffee, so a 200mg pouch is about two.
Typical caffeine amounts
| Strength band | Caffeine | Roughly equal to |
|---|---|---|
| Light | Under 50mg | Less than a coffee |
| Moderate | 50 to 99mg | About one coffee |
| Strong | 100 to 149mg | One to one and a half coffees |
| Extra strong | 150mg and up | Two coffees or more |

How much caffeine is too much?
For a healthy adult, keep the total under 400mg a day and single doses under 200mg (EFSA). In pregnancy, stay under 200mg a day (NHS). Remember the pouch is only part of your intake; a strong pouch plus a couple of coffees can reach the limit quickly.
Why a pouch can feel stronger than the number suggests
Because caffeine from a pouch absorbs through the gum and arrives fast, a 100mg pouch can feel punchier than a 100mg coffee sipped over twenty minutes, even though the dose is the same. If a pouch feels too strong, drop to a lower mg or take it out sooner. More on this in are caffeine pouches safe.
